The dmc3-4-IP Music/Communication Retrofit Master system by M&S is great choice for your intercom upgrade needs. The dmc3-4 is an intercom system with all-call communication. This unit will call throughout the home and patio with an optional door chime and front door speaker so you can answer the door from any room in your home. This intercom master station is specifically designed to replace a 3-wire intercom system and allow up to 13 remote stations or a 4-wire intercom system and allow up to 15 remote stations plus 3 door speakers.

Adding Music to the dmc3-4

With eight presets for both AM/FM radio built in and 2 separate audio inputs, the M&S dmc3-4-IP is a great option for music distribution. With the LCD backlight display, you can easily view all intercom controls.

When purchasing a M&S dmc3-4 master station intercom, there is an optional 6-disc CD changer, the dmc1CD. This CD changer is installed directly below the master station. The disc number and standard CD functions are all displayed on the master station LCD display.

With this dmc3-4-IP you have an installed connection will allow you to play all the playlists you have stored on your Ipod or mp3 player through your dmc3-4 intercom system.

Room Stations (Speakers)

The DMC3R, DMC3RS and DMC3RW are used with the 3-wire intercom systems, like the NuTone IMA3303, IM3303, and IM303.
The DMC4R, DMC4RS and DMC4RW are used with the 4-wire intercom systems, like the M&S MC602, MC302 and the 350.
The DMC3R and the DMC4R are standard intercom room stations.
The DMC4RS and the DMC3RS are the same station with one additional function. These speakers can select the audio source, scan through the radio stations, and control the dmc3-4 master station volume.
All intercom room stations have push button operation and dial for the volume control.
The DMC3RW and DMC4RW are patio stations and have the same functions as the DMC3RS and DMC4RS.

dmc3-4 Room Stations The M&S dmc3-4 offers four main style room speakers. The dmc3R and dmc4R are standard intercom room stations with call and volume functions. The DMC3RS and DMC4RS are the same station with additional functions. The dmc3R and dmc3RS are three wire speakers and the dmc4R and dmc4RS are four wire speakers. These speakers can select the audio source, scan through the radio stations, and control the dmc3-4 master station volume. dmc3-4 Rough-in Housings For master unit rough in and finish-out components order the Model dmc1H Wall Housing Kit to mount the dmc1 master. If the optional Model dmc1CD Add-on CD Changer is used, order the dmc1HC CD Combination Wall Housing Kit. When you are upgrading your older intercom system to the new M&S dmc1, you can add additional speakers to the new system. All you need to do is purchase the proper room speaker from above, a dmcHR rough-in frame for new installation, and additional wire.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I replaced an old Broan system with this M&S retrofit. I had an electrician help with the master unit transformer hookup and wired everything else myself.
Door and room stations were easy to hook up especially with the retrofit frames. I had to improvise a little on the old Broan outdoor station as it was an odd size.
Customer support came up with a nice suggestion for hooking wires to the master unit. They also patiently answered a few other simple questions.

All it took was some time and patience, about 12-14 hours of my labor. The result was well worth it and the intercom is useful again. I also saved about $2000 in installation costs.

This is a great product to replace an older system and the support was patient and courteous at all levels. We are very pleased.

The M&S MMC 3-4 was very easy to install, looks great and sounds and works perfectly. This unit replaces an existing 20 year old 4 wire M&S system. A few pointers for anyone purchasing the same unit as an upgrade to an existing 4 wire system.
First: Make sure you purchase the Rough-In frame M&S DMC 1H Master Housing. I missed this point when placing my order. I called the Central Vac folks the next day to discuss my mistake and they were very helpful making sure I received the frame in time for my weekend installation project.
Follow the electrical instructions to the letter including the recommendation for a qualified electrician to relocate the power if necessary. In my case the power was in the correct location so no need for electrical help.
Second: Ensure that you order a chime module. The instructions are a bit unclear how to install in an existing 4 wire system. At the door bell location - connect the red and black wires to the door bell speaker and the green and white to the button switch. Back at the master unit connect the red and black wires as instructed in the manual, connect the green wire to the common on the chime module and the white wire to the desired ring number.
Third: The Music Station and Frame kit DMC4RSR5 made the room installation a snap. The screw holes lined up perfectly making the process fast and simple.
In all cases just make sure to follow the color code instruction in the manual.
Last point: My MMC 3-4 came with a different AM/FM antenna connection than indicated in the instructions. The FM antenna connection was set for a 300 ohm twin lead install not the 75 ohm RG59U that was in the wall. Lickey for me the previous installation came with both a twin lead flat wire dipole antenna and coax with f-connector - used the flat wire and works great. The alternative would be to add a f-connector to the coax provided with the installation kit and barrel the two together.
All in all a simple one day project.
