Do you still need help?
If you are just not sure which hose to purchase, we can help.  First, don't hesitate to call us at 1-800-221-8227 and we can ask you a few simple questions to make sure you get the perfect hose for your central vacuum system. OR...you can follow our two step process outlined right here to walk you through your choices.

STEP ONE:  Determine what type of inlets you have.

Customers purchasing online often wonder if their central vacuum inlets are electric.  Sometimes there is confusion because ALL central vacuum inlets have low voltage wiring, and many standard inlets allow the use of an on/off hose.  Low voltage wiring does not mean an inlet is electric. Here are a few questions about your powerhead that might help you determine if you have electric inlets.  This is because the type of powerhead you use is generally related to the type of inlet you have. As always, please call one of our experts at 1-800-221-8227 if you need any assistance at all.

1.  What type of brush are you using on your carpet?
If you have mostly bare floors and are using a standard floor or carpet tool, or if you are using a Turbocat, or any air-driven powerhead, then you probably do not have an electric hose. You might want to take a look at our 30ft Turbo Hose.

2.  Do you use an electric powerhead on your carpeting?
An electric powerhead will have an electric connection somewhere on the powerhead.  You will either see a cord coming from your powerhead or you will see a receptacle where you will plug your cord.  If you see this then you need an electric hose.

3.  Do you need an electric direct-connect hose or an electric pig-tail hose?
The best way to decide whether you need a direct connect electric hose or a pigtail electric hose is by determining what type of inlets you have. Standard inlets will require the use of an electric pigtail hose.

NOTE:  The 35ft electric hose featured on this page has a pigtail hose end. The hose plugs into a standard inlet in the wall there is an additional cord that also plugs in. Take a look below to see the what a standard inlet looks like

Standard Central Vacuum Inlets

central vacuum hose inlets

Standard Inlets are non-electrical inlets. These inlets require low voltage for turning the vacuum system on or off. These inlets have NO electrical capability. If electrical attachments are used (i.e. powerhead), then you need to use a central vacuum hose called a Pigtail Hose. This hose has a powercord attached to it and in addition to connecting the hose to the inlet, there will be a 4 to 8 foot power cord (usually referred to as a Pigtail) that plugs into an electrical outlet for electricity.

If the inlets pictured above DO NOT look like your inlet then take a look at the electric inlets picture below. If you have electric inlets and an electric powerhead then you will want to purchase an electric direct connect hose.  A direct connect electric central vacuum hose will be all one piece no additional cords to plug in.

Electric Central Vacuum Inlets

Electric Inlets can be used with any standard, turbo, pigtail or direct connect hoses but they are designed for direct connect hoses. These inlets require low voltage wiring AND electrical wiring. The low voltage wiring is used to turn the vacuum system on or off. The electrical wiring provides electricity to the powerhead that is used to clean carpet. The direct connect central vacuum hose has electrical wire running through the hose and the end that plugs into the inlet has prongs that fit into the inlet for electricity to the powerhead.

NOTE: A Direct Connect hose not Pigtail should be used with these Electric inlets.

STEP TWO:  Determine what type of hose end you have.

Take a look at the two different types of electric handles; recessed and flushed. The hose offered here is a flush hose end.  If you believe you have a recessed hose this is not the hose to purchase, look here for our other hose options.

Recessed Electric Hose Handle

 Pigtail Recessed Hose

The recessed electric hose handle has the recessed cord management system as shown here. If you look just below the chrome piece  you will see a small recessed, white receptacle.  This is a recessed electric hose handle.  Recessed refers to the electric receptacle.  We carry hoses in either pigtail or direct connect that will fit  this type of recessed handle.

Flush Electric Hose Handle

 Pigtail Flushed Hose

The flush electric hose handle has the flush cord management system as shown here. Just below the chrome  piece you will see a small flush, white receptacle. Flush refers to the electric receptacle.  We carry hoses in either pigtail or direct connect with this type of flush handle.

 Ridiculous Design

By Hyper Bee Verified Reviewer from Orange, TX on 01/14/2009

Pros: Easy To Clean
Cons: Heavy, Weak Function, attaching is nightmare
Best Uses: General Upkeep, Heavily Used Areas, Messy Kids, Pet Hair
I Am A: Family Older Kids
This hose has the worst design EVER for attaching either vacuuming brush. There is slack in the hose above where the holes are drilled for teh buttons to lock so that EVERY time I push and then pull back over the floor, it pops out of the hole and comes apart. This is the second one I've owned, and it is worse than the first one I bought 12 years ago! My husband had to fix that one by putting plastic plumbing rings on the hose above the button to take out the slack. He had to drill a new hole in my power brush handle to fix it this time, and now the design for the regular floor tool (with the plastic at the top) will not allow for any new holes. Guess we'll have to find plastic rings to fit hose again. When paying as much for something as that hose, it should not have this kind of a design issue. I am quite dissatistifed with this product.
