Components of a Central Vacuum System

The Central Vacuum Power Unit : There are a variety of different types of central vacuum systems.  Filtered systems have a filter that will need to be changed or cleaned from time to time.  Bagged systems have disposable paper bags for easy dust and dirt disposal an true cyclonic systems exhaust the finest dirt and dust particles outside while the heavier particles fall to the bottom of a canister that can be emptied.  On true cyclonics the central vacuum motor and dirt canister are one unit that is separated to  empty the dirt canister or on some the dirt canister is  a separate unit from the motor pod.

Central Vacuum Inlets: Depending on the size of your home and the length hose you choose, these inlets will be installed in your walls at various locations. When the end of the hose is inserted to the inlet, the power unit automatically turns on so you can start vacuuming immediately. Inlets come in a variety of attractive styles to go with the decor of your home like polished brass, etc. We have information on our website to help you plan the number of inlets you need for your home. Check out this article.

Central Vacuum Piping: Piping can be either standard central vacuum piping or schedule 40 plumbers piping along with special adaptors we sell. Using Schedule 40 piping allows you to purchase the piping for the job at your local hardware store. You can check out our DIY Knowledgebase article that discuss the considerations of which type of piping you choose.

Central Vacuum Sweep Inlets: You can choose to install a special type of inlet in your home that can be used for sweeping dirt directly into the system. These sweep inlets located floor level at the base of a cabinet or wall are great for when you want to do quick cleanups in a highly trafficked area like a kitchen without pulling out the hose and attachments. You can just activate the central vacuum system when you open the inlet to push dirt into it.

Central Vacuum Attachments: Choosing the right attachments for your central vacuum system is probably one of the most important things you'll do in the process of selecting your system. There are lots of options these days and your choice depends on your needs. In addition to the hose, tools and powerhead that comes with your attachments, be sure to consider things like; do I want a garage tool kit too? Do I need tools for grooming my pet? Do I want a hand held revolving brush powerhead for cleaning stairs and the cars? Do I want the Holster Vac for cleaning the work bench area? The options are endless so look at what's available under Central Vacuum accessories or give us a call and let us help you choose the right kit for your needs.
