The Nutone VX550C central vacuum power unit is manufactured for the somewhat larger homes up to 8,000 square feet. The VX550C has a 2-stage motor with 550 air watts. The large seven gallon dirt canister with oversized handles makes emptying easy. The cyclonic filter is accessed quickly via an easily accessible door. The Nutone VX550C has cyclonic action, but is not a true cyclonic unit, which means you don't have to vent it outside. Noise from this unit is reduced due to internal sound suppression. If space is a problem, the oval design of the Nutone VX550C has a slightly smaller footprint than some other central vacuum systems. I was surprised to find that the entire housing including the dirt collection canister and latches are plastic. I am concerned with the lifespan of the latches themselves. They appear to be replaceable. I am ordering spares while they are available. Time will tell if my concerns are reality. My last unit was of metal construction and was over 20 years old and worked perfectly.
This unit is much quieter than my old unit.
Instead of having a built-in vacuum port, this unit ships with an external vacuum port that is fit into the main trunk line. I expected the unit to have the port built into the unit itself.
